Who We Are
Kerala's collective voice for medical devices and MedTech
Our identity
The Kerala Medical Device Industry Association is an independent, industry-led platform created specifically for Kerala’s medical device and MedTech sector.
Whom we bring together
This breadth matters because medical technology is multidisciplinary. No single organisation is likely to hold every clinical, engineering, evidence, regulatory, quality, manufacturing, commercial and post-market capability a device needs.
- Medical device manufacturers
- Medical rubber product manufacturers
- In-vitro diagnostics and laboratory-device companies
- Medical electronics and active-equipment companies
- Implant, instrument and biomaterial manufacturers
- Assistive-technology and rehabilitation enterprises
- Consumables and hospital-equipment companies
- Startups and emerging innovators
- Component, material, contract-manufacturing, testing, quality, regulatory, sterilisation and packaging providers
- Research, academic, healthcare, trade and professional institutions, subject to membership criteria
Why we exist
Kerala has a meaningful medical device base. Invest Kerala reports a 15 per cent contribution to India’s medical device industry and describes 85 companies with annual revenue above ₹9,000 crore. The state also benefits from biomedical research, engineering and clinical institutions, technical talent, startup activity and connected industrial strengths.
Yet companies of different sizes encounter similar barriers: navigating regulation, accessing specialist testing and common facilities, developing skilled teams and suppliers, understanding relevant schemes, engaging procurement and policymakers, connecting research with manufacturing, and reaching new markets.
KMDIA exists to give those shared needs a structured industry platform. By listening across segments, the association can identify common priorities, convene relevant expertise and create a consistent channel for constructive engagement.
What we seek to change
From isolated challenges to shared priorities
An issue experienced by one company often reveals a wider infrastructure, skills, policy or market gap. KMDIA can collect the evidence and represent the common need.
From fragmented capability to useful connection
Manufacturers, startups, researchers, clinicians and specialist providers should be able to find the relevant expertise without starting from scratch each time.
From late compliance to early readiness
Through learning and expert engagement, companies can weigh regulation, quality, evidence and manufacturing readiness early in development rather than at the end.
From local capability to wider competitiveness
Kerala's enterprises become more visible and better prepared for national and global market opportunities.
What KMDIA is, and what it is not
KMDIA is
- An industry association and convening platform
- A collective channel for representation and dialogue
- A network for learning, collaboration and opportunity awareness
- An advocate for a stronger Kerala MedTech ecosystem
KMDIA is not
- A government department or regulator
- A licensing, notified, certification or testing body
- A substitute for product-specific legal, regulatory, clinical or quality advice
- A guarantor of funding, procurement, approval, partnership or sales
Vision
Making Kerala the MedTech Hub of India and positioning India as the MedTech Hub of the World.
Mission
Uniting Kerala's MedTech ecosystem to accelerate innovation, manufacturing excellence, and global competitiveness.
A platform built for participation
The proposed governance principle, one corporate group and one vote, is intended to encourage fair participation by organisations at different stages and scales. Its final application, including category voting rights and the definition of a corporate group, will be confirmed in the adopted membership framework.
